Who we are
Volunteer
Interfaith Caregivers Faith in Action® is part of Christian
HomeCare Services, Inc. (CHCS, Inc). CHCS,
Inc. is a 501 (c ) (3) nonprofit offering faith-based,
quality, compassionate, support services by providing non-medical
in-home care, transportation, and information and referral to
individuals 60+ to allow these seniors to remain independent in
their own homes. Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers is a
volunteer-based ecumenical program which works with seniors with
the Metro-East area to maintain their independence in their own
homes.
Our story
Volunteer
Interfaith Caregivers provides services to seniors in the
following towns: Lebanon, Mascoutah, Belleville, Shiloh,
O’Fallon, Fairview Heights, Swansea, Trenton, Alhambra, Freeburg,
New Baden, New Athens, Cahokia, and Dupo.
Services we offer
Transportation to medical appointments-INCLUDING TO ST, LOUIS MO
Shopping for groceries
Pharmacy to pick up medications
Other basic life errands (bank, hair dresser, etc.)
Provides companionship through phone reassurance calls
Requests for
transportation must be made 3-7 days prior to your appointment!!!
There is no charge for these services but donations are greatly
appreciated!!
Volunteers needed
Volunteer drivers
and office volunteers are needed to keep up with the sharp
increase in seniors needing transportation. Volunteer hours are
based on your needs and availability. If interested in being the
extra support needed from our community seniors please call
618-537-9590 or complete a volunteer application and mail it to
the address listed above. Volunteers will undergo a criminal
background check, driver record check, and a brief orientation.
In addition, volunteers must provide a copy of their auto
liability insurance.

Our assisted transportation program,
Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers, is a volunteer based program affiliated
with the national Faith In Action program. This program provides
transportation to medical appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores,
church, and volunteer opportunities to support our senior’s
independence. Our volunteers go-through the door at these
appointments and assist with completing forms and provide reassurance
and advocacy for each individual. This donation based
program’s number of transportation trips has increased from 3191 in 2003
to 4808 in 2005. Our volunteers provided 6277 hours of service to
our seniors and drove 48, 700 miles in 2005.
